What is Zinc Plating?

Zinc plating refers to the process of electroplating a layer of zinc onto a metal surface. It is achieved by immersing the metal part in a zinc-containing solution and applying an electric current, which causes zinc ions to deposit onto the part's surface. The result is a zinc-coated metal that has a shiny, protective finish.

 

Zinc Electroplating Process

While both zinc plating and galvanized sheet metal provide excellent corrosion protection, they differ mainly in their coating methods and thickness.

Zinc plating is ideal for smaller parts and applications where a thinner protective layer is sufficient. It is more commonly used for fasteners, automotive parts, and small hardware items.

Galvanized sheet metal, on the other hand, is better suited for large structural components, such as steel beams or exterior panels, where a thicker, more robust coating is required.
